NDF gets a pat on implementation of industry support project
The Nature and Development Foundation (NDF) has received commendations for good project implementation efforts and style from stakeholders of their project “Innovation for improved forest governance in west Africa: Demand and supply side solutions in a changing landscape”.
The two-year project which is receiving financial support from FAO, EU, Sweden Sverige and UKaid under the FAO-EU FLEGT PROGRMME has been implemented for a year now. Reviewing progress on the project, building of industry’s capacity to comply with FLEGT through organized workshops, engagement of media on the public procurement policy on timber and timber products in Ghana, one-on-one engagement with selected industries to organise their internal system to comply with Wood Tracking System of the FLEGT and a tour to link high volume timber consumers to timber producing companies were some of the major activities conducted.
In a presentation on project challenges, Mr. Glen Asomaning, the Operations Director of NDF said, the main challenge has been the selection of the industries to deliver the support to. He explained that, records on existing companies and their respective locations were not entirely so in the reality; as many of the companies only had virtual existence. He also added that, during their field visit, they came across many entirely different companies whose existence where requires questioning by appropriate authorities
At the program organized at the Angehill hotel, East Legon, project donors, beneficiary industries and project partners applauded NDF and urged them to steadfastly continue with project implementation.
