Today, a coalition of environmental and civic organizations, including Nature and Development Foundation, A Rocha Ghana, and others, have taken legal action to halt destructive mining activities in Ghana’s precious forest reserves.
We are challenging the legality of the Environmental Protection (Mining in Forest Reserves) Regulations, 2022 (L.I. 2462), which threaten to erode decades of progress in forest and water resource management.
Mining in forest reserves, including precious nature reserves, is on the rise. (Twenty-four Forest reserves has been affected so far.) This cannot continue unchecked.
We are calling for:
1. Revocation of L.I 2462
1. A halt to any new mining permits in forest reserves.
2. An injunction to prevent ongoing mining activities in forest reserves.
3. Protection of biodiversity areas from presidential mining approvals.
Join us in the fight to safeguard Ghana’s environment for future generations!
