Civil Society Organisations (CSOs ) in the country have petitioned President Akufo-Addo and the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin over the revocation of a new Legislative Instrument (LI 2462) which puts no restriction on mining in Ghana’s forest reserves.The CSOs numbering 23 in August picketed at Parliament and Minerals Commission for two consecutive days in a bid to drum home their concerns.
A Coalition of 23 CSOs has petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, to champion the revocation of L.I 2462 which regulates mining in forest reserves. According to the coalition, the provisions of the L.I are at variance with the 1992 Constitution.

Mustapha Seidu emphasized the importance of prosecuting individuals engaged in illegal mining, stating that the evidence against Aisha Huang provides a solid foundation for legal action. He believes that such prosecutions will serve as a strong deterrent to others involved in illegal mining activities.
The letter criticizes the artist's upcoming concert on launching and endorsing Ellembele Community Mining for its environmental and societal impact on community farms, water bodies, and biodiversity habitats. It calls for the artist to consider the long-term effects of mining practices and advocate for sustainable alternatives like creating green jobs for youth.

Making this startled revelation yesterday in Accra at a Stakeholders Engagement on the policy implication of L.I. 2462, the Director of Nature and Development Foundation, Mr Mustapha Seidu said, it is strange for anybody to even conceive the idea of mining at the treasured Kakum National Park. Information gleaned from the website of the Minerals Commission revealed that, the application is still under consideration.
