About Us

Who we are

A modest non-governmental organization in Ghana with partners across West Africa. NDF’s unique way of working combines collaboration with government, local community, private sector, industry associations and other civil society bodies in delivering innovative solutions to meet the needs of people whiles ensuring conservation of natural resources.

For over five (5) years, NDF has been working to ensure legality compliance within the timber industry in Ghana and the west African sub-region. Actions have been geared towards curbing illegal logging by restricting the market for illegally sourced wood. NDF’s efforts are contributing to halt further degradation of forests and loss of biodiversity in Ghana and across West Africa.

Our strength

NDF is currently active in Ghana with partners in Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia. The focus in these countries have been to interact with the broader land use sector, ensuring basic legal compliance by industry, encouraging responsible forest management and commodity production in general as well as interaction with other actors who influence the forest landscape. We work with key partners to achieve leadership as an organisation with respect to our work in responsible forest management, natural resources management, rural development and governance in the region.

How we work

Human development that takes into account Nature Conservation is a big job. No organization can do it alone, and that’s why we collaborate. Nature & Development Foundation’s work ethics is characterized by international best practices that have been acquired through its WWF heritage and the enormous capacity building with international exposure of its staff.

Here at NDF, we believe our mission is achievable through the pursuit of the following approaches.

  • Mobilizing key players, such as industry, local communities, consumer markets and governments in relevant countries in West Africa to create the conditions and solutions that can drive sustainable natural resource utilization on the ground.
  • Creating partnerships with key organizations, such as industry and governments in relevant countries in West Africa plus other strategic civil society organizations in REDD+ dialogue and developing market mechanisms to act as stimuli for positive change.
  • Engaging in activities around other land-uses impacting the forest landscape in West Africa, focusing on sustainable forms of land use in appropriate locations.
